They can heal the wounded, the broken spirited, the physically ill, the most vulnerable and weak.
Run by Amy and Mark Steppe, both military veterans, the Unbridled Heroes Project is a 501c3 non-profit mustang training and rescue facility. The Unbridled Heroes Project also acts as a wellness center for military Veterans, providing support and alternative programs to aid in their becoming whole again.
From our Allendale, NJ facility, our Heroes will be able to care for and connect with horses, some of which are previously wild mustangs, magnificent animals who once roamed free in the West. We will also have some severely abused and neglected horses that we have saved from the slaughter pipeline.
Mustangs also have stories to tell: from the days of living free and wild to having been captured, kept in long-term holding pens, and eventually trained. Some, like our mascot Hope (seen in photo above), were trained and adopted before being sold, resold, abandoned, beaten, starved…They, too, were broken in spirit as well as physically.
Together, our American Heroes and our American Mustangs, both icons to this great country can find solace in one another.
Unbridled Heroes is dedicated to being a voice to these magnificent animals and working with federal and state agencies to make sure America’s horses are protected. We will update our website with current laws and the issues our horses are facing today, from neglect and abuse to the horrific slaughter pipeline. We will be steadfast in our mission to make the changes necessary for our horses.
